KAP’s divisions have supported a number of initiatives to combat the spread of COVID-19 and to provide assistance to vulnerable communities during Level 4 of the lockdown.

Unitrans Africa donated PPE equipment and provided logistics support and funding. In Madagascar, working with the local Lions International Club, funding was provided to a local school that feeds street children in Fort-Dauphin. Logistical assistance was also provided to help establish a quarantine facility in the country.

In Malawi, PPE equipment was donated to health centres in the Dwangwa district. In Botswana, a donation was made to the government’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, which is providing food parcels and medical assistance to the poor.

The Integrated Bedding division converted an operation to manufacture textiles that are used to manufacture masks, gowns and aprons for the medical industry in South Africa. A donation was also made to a charity, Shout for Masks, which provided free face masks to the medical community.

Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions assisted with the distribution of food parcels as part of the Feed the Nation campaign.

Donations were made to a number of charities, including Home from Home, which is an organisation that provides support and supervised foster care for abused, orphaned and neglected children in South Africa. Funding was provided to the Steinthal Children’s Home in Tulbagh to ensure enough food was available during the lockdown period. Working with FoodForward SA, funding was provided to Emanuel Educare, which provided food to crèche-going children.

The Polymers division donated product to their customer, Pailpac, who manufactured and supplied 20-litre polypropylene buckets filled with personal care products to impoverished rural communities. The buckets were printed with information on COVID-19 and education tips to prevent the spread of the disease. The buckets were ideal as they could also be used to collect and store clean water in areas where there is no access to running water.

KAP and its operations remain committed to supporting the communities in which they operate.
